This summer has almost come to an end and we have enjoyed the beauty of the summer resorts, such as the Pet-friendly sites that we have recommended in our article. We have had fun with our dogs but we have not been able to ignore that, unfortunately, plastic is increasingly present in our seas, lakes and oceans. But how can we help keep our seas clean and safe for us and our pets?
According to a WWF report, the number of tons of plastic produced in a year is around 450 million, of which 8 million end up in the oceans each year. Preserving our environment is essential, not only for our well-being – and that of future generations – but also for our pets and the animals that are part of our ecosystem. How to show that you love animals and also yourself? Contribute, do your part!
Plastic is useful and can be recycled but there is something that we are doing wrong. Walking along the shore with your furry friend, you may have noticed the presence of plastic waste that is harmful not only to the environment but also to the ecosystem.
WWF has in fact estimated that around 700 have been involved in pollution phenomena due to plastic materials.
In addition, according to a study by the University of Hawaii, the pollution caused by plastic materials has also a negative impact on the climate. If these materials are not properly disposed of and recycled, they produce greenhouse gases during their degradation.

Ensuring the sustainability of the environment is an ethical duty not only for the well-being but also, and above all, for our four-legged friends who are even more exposed to the dangers of plastic. It is our duty to allow them to run and play without worry and without risking ingesting materials that are potentially toxic to their health.
Abandoned plastic, in fact, represents a great threat to our pets, especially in the oceans, seas and lakes where animals are more susceptible to the danger of ingestion. Swallowing a plastic can be fatal for them! And it is also for them that we have to stop the problem.
LiberiDallaPlastica has reported on a study conducted by the University of Bologna regarding the dangers faced by Caretta Caretta turtles in the Adriatic Sea due to the high levels of plastic present. The study focuses on these animals because their health status is linked to the waters where they live, and in fact they are considered the “sentinels of the seas”. From the analysis of fecal samples from 45 Caretta Caretta turtles, a high concentration of plastic waste has been detected.
Pollution by plastic materials is becoming more and more problematic and everyone for their part can and should do something without giving up the usefulness of plastic but using it correctly and in a responsible way so that the environment does not suffer.
How to show that you love animals and yourself?
Here is a series of small tips to keep our seas clean and safe:
1. Recycle correctly: PET, PP, PE and PVC can be turned into other useful objects!
2. Buy oversized confections. You will thus have more product and less plastic to dispose of.
3. Collaborate in cleaning up the environment: when you leave home, pick up the rubbish you find along the way and post photos on your social networks to inspire other people to do so.
4. Contribute to an organization or association such as Plastic Free by donating, working on the collection or contributing to the awareness campaign. What will we do by participating in one of the collection events. But to know more, follow us!
